A blog analyzing Major League Baseball through the lens of Astrology
Welcome to Astrology Baseball, a project where I arrange MLB players into teams based on their astrological signs, and then pit those teams against each other in mock fantasy seasons.
1989 Astrology League Recap
As my reverse-chronological trip through Fantasy Astrology Baseball League history enters the 1980’s, I’m going to structure these recaps a bit differently. Rather than focus on just the yearly award winners, I’ll look at those winners through the lens of the four divisional leading signs.
Libra 2021 Pitchers
The strength of Libra in 2021 was undoubtedly their batters, specifically their outfield. But their pitching staff was impressive in its own right, with some high quality starters and relievers. For this post, I’ll be imagining what a roster might look like for a hypothetical offseason tournament with teams based on astrological signs.
Libra 2021 Batters
Last time I finished my first of 12 in-depth looks into the 2021 Fantasy Astrology Baseball League signs, and now I’m moving on to second place Libra. The Scales also represented the Positive Polarity in the weekly fantasy league I ran for 2021, although they fell in the finals to Taurus – the 11th place team in terms of total points.
Scorpio Tarot: Death
I think it’s fair to say that as far as the study of astrology is concerned, Scorpio is having a moment right now. So it only makes sense that such an iconic zodiac sign would be associated with one of the most iconic cards in the Tarot: #13 Death.
Virgo 2021 Pitchers
I tried to limit my 2021 recaps to one post per sign, but I found that I had so much to say about Virgo batters that I should probably split the offense and pitching into two separate posts. So here’s an in-depth look at the players who contributed to Virgo’s pitching staff in the 2021 season.
Virgo 2021 Batters
Virgo as a team scored the most fantasy points in 2021, according to my usual method of ranking the signs. However, it takes much more than a starting lineup to make a Fantasy Astrology Baseball League team, so today I’m taking an in-depth look at all the relevant players who contributed to Virgo in 2021.
Astrology Baseball Classic
It’s the end of another baseball season. Your fantasy leagues have long been decided, the World Series Champion has been crowned, and you’re preparing yourself for a long and arduous offseason... But wait! Someone has just proposed a new event to warm the winter months: the Astrology Baseball Classic!
Postseason MVPs Through History
The best way to get a complete picture of each astrological sign’s true talent level is by analyzing regular season performance, since that’s where you get the largest sample size. But when it comes to playoff time, what we really want to know is, which players from which signs are most likely to help your team win the World Series, for which we have the Willie Mays World Series MVP Award.
2021 Astrology Awards Recap
Even though MLB’s yearly awards do not take postseason performance into account, the league waits to announce the winners until well after the World Series. But since it benefits me to post about baseball related content while excitement about the sport is at a fever pitch, here’s a recap of the Fantasy Astrology Baseball League award winners in advance of tonight’s World Series Game 3.
2021 Championship Series Top Scorers
The World Series starts today! The 2021 version of the Fall Classic features the cheatin’ Houston Astros against the culturally insensitive Atlanta Braves! To be fair, I’m an equal opportunity disparager: had it gone the other way, I would have called the Red Sox out for also cheating, and the Dodgers for willingly employing a repeat sexual abuser and cyber bully.
1990’s All-Decade Starters
Whenever I finish a decade’s worth of Fantasy Astrology lineups, I like to take a look at the most consistent players in each sign. I pay special attention to players who made their sign’s starting lineup for all 10 years in question, which happened six times in the 1990’s.
2021 MLB Database First Impressions
When I build the yearly Fantasy Astrology lineups for the Gallery Section, I only consider players who had significant playing time that year: 200 plate appearances for hitters or 40 innings for pitchers. But for this year, I went all out and created a database with every player who had an appearance in the major leagues in 2021.
2021 Division Series Top Scorers
We now have a whole Division Series’ worth of games (plus the Wild Card Games) to evaluate how the various signs are doing in the 2021 Postseason. Keep in mind that the usual small sample size caveats apply, since a best-of-five environment is not enough to draw any meaningful conclusions… but we have to work with the data we’re given.
All-Time Since 1990: Air Signs
It’s time for the last entry in my Astrology All-Time-Since-1990 database, which this time features the three Air Signs. As a reminder, rather than building out entirely new depth charts for each sign, I’m only focusing on the new additions from the 1990’s – which, since we’re going reverse-chronologically, is the latest decade to be added.
Libra Tarot: Justice
Libra is the seventh sign on the zodiac wheel, and it links up with Major Arcana #11: Justice. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll see that we skipped #10: The Wheel of Fortune, which is linked with the planet Jupiter, and I guess you can’t have both a planet and an astrological sign.
All-Time Since 1990: Water Signs
So far I’ve looked at the new 1990’s additions to my All-Time database for signs in the Earth and Fire divisions. This post will feature the Water division signs, which are led by Scorpio. The 165 Scorpions players who started on a FABL team through the 1990’s put up 1,827,177 total fantasy points, which is all the more impressive considering only Sagittarius had fewer total players in that span.
FABL 2021 Season End
Another Fantasy Astrology Baseball League season is now in the books, with the Taurus defeating Libra by a rather decisive 2,161 to 1,738 fantasy point margin. And I find it fitting that two Taurus hitters had key moments to secure their real-life teams’ playoff hopes in Game 162: Alex Verdugo had a game-tying double against the Nationals, while Aaron Judge delivered the walk-off single for the Yankees.
All-Time Since 1990: Fire Division
Continuing my expansion of my All-Time career fantasy points database into the 1990’s, today I’ll look at the teams in the Fire Division. I’m starting this post with Leo, whose players put up the second-most career fantasy points since the 1990’s – 1,861,846 in total, behind only Virgo’s 1,874,298.
FABL 2021 Finals Pitching Preview
I don’t know why I thought I could jam analysis of all nine starting position players, five starting pitchers, and two relievers into one single post, but I guess my eyes were bigger than my word count. Either way, I covered the offenses of the two championship-contending signs on Sunday, so now it’s time for the pitching staffs. (Pitching staves?)
FABL 2021 Finals Batting Preview
I spent multiple posts throughout this season hyping Leo and Pisces as their divisional leaders, only for them to each get unceremoniously eliminated in the first round of the postseason. While we still have the consolation bracket to see who would win in a matchup between the signs with the two best records, the battle for the true FABL championship is taking place between Taurus and Libra.
