1990’s All-Decade Starters

Whenever I finish a decade’s worth of Fantasy Astrology lineups, I like to take a look at the most consistent players in each sign. I pay special attention to players who made their sign’s starting lineup for all 10 years in question, which happened six times in the 1990’s (counting, of course, from 1990 to 1999, the PROPER way to distinguish a decade).

Starting right at the top of the karmic wheel, we have Greg Maddux, who headlined the Aries starting rotation for every year that started with 199. I profiled Maddux when I analyzed Aries’s All-2000’s team, as he finished just behind Leo Roger Clemens in career fantasy points among pitchers from that time period. Behind Maddux in the Rams All-1990’s rotation is Tom Glavine, his real-life teammate on the Braves for most of the decade, after Maddux was acquired from the Cubs

The incomparable Tony Gwynn did not make a Taurus starting lineup during the 2000’s, but he started in right field for the Bulls every year in the previous decade. Moving over to the infield, you’ll see that Barry Larkin almost joined Gwynn in the All-Decade club, but injuries limited him to “just” eight years in the starting lineup. The prolific use of italics in the center field column denotes that Tony Phillips didn’t technically qualify there for some of the years I have him listed.

I’ve already talked about Barry Bonds a lot, since his excellence extended well into the 2000’s, but he had the Leo left field spot locked up for the entirety of the 1990’s. In that span, Bonds won three of his seven career MVP awards, and had five straight years of winning both the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards in the outfield.

Another player who I profiled in my All-2000’s section, Rafael Palmeiro, played first base for Libra throughout the 1990’s. Actually, there were some years in which fellow first baseman Mark McGwire outscored Raffy in fantasy points, but for this exercise, I’ll shift things around for positional consistency. Plus, McGwire is probably better suited for DH duties anyway.

Capricorn has the distinction of having two All-Decade players, although one of them had to shift positions for one year. The consistent one is starting pitcher David Cone, although he did play for four different real-life teams in the 90’s. The other one is Rick Aguilera, who served as a closer for 9 out of 10 years in question, but inexplicably started all 19 of his games for the 1996 Twins.

Despite Aquarius being stuck in last place for most of the decade, they had a Hall of Fame second baseman locking things down in Roberto Alomar. I didn’t talk about Alomar in my All-2000’s post about the Water Bearers (Vladimir Guerrero got the nod), but I did relate an anecdote about him in my post about Leo’s connection to the Tarot, believe it or not.

By the time my next post goes live, it will be the first scheduled game of the World Series! Which means the Championship Serieses will be complete, and I will have updated my list of the top-scoring signs of the 2021 postseason (hopefully).
