A blog analyzing Major League Baseball through the lens of Astrology
Welcome to Astrology Baseball, a project where I arrange MLB players into teams based on their astrological signs, and then pit those teams against each other in mock fantasy seasons.
2023 All-Star Reserves
It’s finally here: the day of the MLB All-Star Game! Which means it’s time to tally up the astrological signs of the rosters, including starters, pitchers, and reserves. Full disclosure: I know this does not technically represent the full rosters, because several players have been replaced due to injury.
2023 All-Star Pitchers
Last time, I broke down the 2023 All-Star starting lineups in terms of astrological signs. Leo was the clear leader, with five of the 18 players under consideration. The Lions were ahead of a crowded second place field: five different signs had two players each.
2023 All-Star Starters
The onset of summer is the time when baseball’s top players come together for the All-Star Game, which this year is taking place in Seattle on July 11. The starters were announced last Thursday, with the full rosters being added just two days ago.
Cancer Season 2022 Recap
Would you look at that: Cancer Season is now over! I didn’t even properly notice, since I was occupied by which signs went to the All-Star Game, and then calculating fantasy points as of the All-Star Break. But what better way to to honor the just-ended season by diving into the Crabs 2022 ASB midseason update lineup?!
2022 All-Stars by Sign
Now that we have a break in the MLB action for a few days, I’m going to pause and take stock of how the season is going at the symbolic midpoint. And what better lens through which to view the 2022 season than the 2022 All-Stars? I ran the numbers of which astrological signs are best represented among All-Stars, and the results might shock you!
All-Star Ballot - 2022 Cancer Season
With a stolen US Supreme Court handing down a bullshit decision on Friday, setting back reproductive rights in this country by 50 years, it’s been one of the worst Cancer seasons in recent memory. After a weekend of protesting, marching, and donating to abortion funds, I’m taking a moment to appreciate one of the perennial treats of Cancer season: MLB All-Star Voting.
Triple Play 96 All-Star Lineups
I’ve played my share of baseball video games over the years. But the very first baseball video game I ever played was a little number for the Sega Genesis called Triple Play 96. As luck would have it, at some point I copied the default lineups from this game into an old-fashioned composition book… because that’s just the kind of childhood I had.
FABL All-Stars 2021
Now that the 2021 All-Star festivities are over, I’d like to examine what the All-Star landscape might have looked if they were determined not by the American and National Leagues, but by the Negative and Positive Polarities in the Fantasy Astrology Baseball League.
2021 All-Stars by Sign
Two weeks ago, the official @AllStarGame Twitter account posted a graphic showing which MLB teams had the most All-Star Game starters. The Blue Jays led the way with three, and then four other teams were tied with two apiece. It turns out that the distribution of which astrological signs had the most All-Star Game starters had even more parity: no sign had more than two starters, and more than half the Fantasy Astrology Baseball League reached that threshold (by a margin of one – it was seven teams total).
All-Star Ballot 2021
While watching a game last week (on June 15th in fact), I saw my first indication about the upcoming All-Star Game: a graphic showing the current leaders in All-Star voting. I remember thinking this was fairly late in the season to start hearing about the All-Star Game - usually MLB tries to get you to start voting after the first month or so, which I always thought was early. But then again, I might have just not been paying attention to the right sources.
