2024 Fantasy Astrology Power Rankings

I had a striking realization last week. On Thursday 2/22, to be exact. Baseball is back! With Spring Training officially underway, my attention has shifted away from the historical angle of this project, and into the present. So now it’s time for my first annual Fantasy Astrology Power Rankings!

My methodology has to do with MLB.com’s fantasy rankings, as of Valentine’s Day. But since they only went up to the top 300 this year (previous seasons have gone as deep as 800), it gets a little less scientific towards the end. I’ll go more in-depth in subsequent posts, going elemental division by division. But by my calculations, it looks like four signs are grouped at the top: last season powerhouses Virgo and Libra, and the surprising Pisces and Capricorn.

The Flowers and the Fish are the most consistent, as Virgo and Pisces are the only signs of the top four to have their entire starting lineup, pitching rotation, and two relievers within the top 300. Each sign has a first baseman leading the charge: top 10 talent Freddie Freeman is Virgo’s top ranked player, while Pisces has Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – the cover athlete on this year’s version of MLB The Show.

Both the Scales and the Sea-Goats have trouble finding a fifth starter – although their respective aces of Corbin Burnes and Kevin Gausman are right up with the best of them. Actually, Capricorn struggles with depth all around, but their top-end is unparalleled: with Julio Rodriguez, Kyle Tucker, and Fernando Tatis Jr., their entire starting outfield is ranked in the top 10 overall.

The top four in terms of projected rankings foreshadows a tight battle in the Earth Division, but does not include a sign from the Fire Division. Checking in a number five is Sagittarius, the sign of the top overall fantasy player, Ronald Acuna Jr. – owner of the sport’s only 40-home run, 70-stolen base season. Aries should not be far behind, and the Archers might have some inconsistency to open the season.

Bookmark this post for a hub to the four upcoming divisional previews, which, if my calculations are correct, should finish just in time for Opening Day! The real Opening Day, not the sneak preview that the Dodgers and Padres in South Korea. Although Cancer Crabs fans will be watching that one extra closely, not just for Shohei Ohtani’s Dodger debut, but also to see if Manny Machado is back from his injury.
