2024 World Series Preview
It’s time for the World Series! Which means the number one question I get, as an Astrology Baseball scholar, is: Do you have any predictions? And while it pains me to say it, as an LA resident and Dodger supporter (and a superstitious one, at that)… but the stars seem to favor the Yankees.
Hear me out: Each year, I simulate a Fantasy Astrology Baseball League, with 12 teams – one per sign of the Zodiac. This year, by two different measures, the Scorpio team came out on top. And it just so happens that two of New York’s top hitters were born under the sign of the Stingers, including Juan Soto (2,733 fantasy points on the year / 17.4 points per game) and ALCS MVP Giancarlo Stanton (1,246 / 10.9), whose injury-plagued full season point total should not overshadow his heroics in the playoffs.
By contrast, the Los Angeles has… zero Scorpios among playrers that have suited up for them in the 2024 postseason. To be fair, looking at rankings heading into the season, it looked like Virgo would have the league sewn up, start to finish. And they likely would have, had some untimely pitching injuries not sent them back to third place. And the Dodgers are primarily built around Virgos. Like, so much so that you wonder if president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman follows the astrological trends.
The most impactful Dodgers Virgo bat (when healthy) is Freddie Freeman (1,965 / 13.3), who has been nursing an ankle injury throughout the playoffs. On a curious note, when Freeman has been out of the lineup, fellow Virgo third baseman Max Muncy (946 / 12.8) would slide across the diamond to cover his spot. And who has taken over third base with Muncy at first? Two more Virgo utility players, Enrique Hernandez (830 / 6.7) and Chris Taylor (458 / 5.3).
Things get even crazier in the pitching, where the late season injury to Tyler Glasnow (1,539 / 70.0) is one of the reasons why LA has had such trouble cobbling together innings. But even without their ace, the Dodgers have two key Virgo leverage arms, in former closer Evan Phillips (1,139 / 18.7) and sometime opener Ryan Brasier (280 / 9.7). And that’s not even counting other injured hurlers Brusdar Graterol and Dustin May. It's worth mentioning that the Yankees too have a star Virgo pitcher in tonight’s starter Gerrit Cole (992 / 58.4).
Switching back to this year’s top sign, it’s important to note that the Dodgers did just recently dispatch a Scorpio-rich team from New York, as the Mets batting order was bookended by shortstop Francisco Lindor (2,397 / 15.8) batting leadoff and catcher Francisco Alvarez (824 / 8.4) in the nine hole. And it’s also important to note that the two most impressive players in this year’s World Series, and likely the two league MVPs, are neither of the signs we discussed. Shohei Ohtani (3,587 / 22.6) is a Cancer Crab (the number two overall sign, but second to Scorpio in the Water Division) and Aaron Judge (3,239 / 20.5) is a Taurus… the same sign as NLCS MVP Tommy Edman (447 / 12.1).
Given these findings, even if I were allowed to place any bets on the Fall Classic – gambling is illegal in California, after all – I would be torn. Do you choose the team that leans on just a couple of players from the t0p overall sign? Or do you prefer the team that has an overwhelming lead in players from the number two and three signs? Only time will tell!
