A blog analyzing Major League Baseball through the lens of Astrology
Welcome to Astrology Baseball, a project where I arrange MLB players into teams based on their astrological signs, and then pit those teams against each other in mock fantasy seasons.
All-Time Since 1970 Positive Signs
When I first updated my database, for the years from 2000 to the present, Leo claimed the top spot. As of my last update, All-Time Since 1980, the Lions had dropped all the way to fourth place. But when taking the 1970s into account, they’re now back up to second, behind Scorpio, which makes Leo the top scorer in the Positive Polarity.
All-Time Since 1970 Negative Signs
When I last added a decade to my All-Time Career Fantasy Points Database, I painstakingly covered each new addition through the lens of each sign’s All-Time depth chart. Rather than re-tread that same ground so soon afterwards, this time I’ll give a much broader top-level overview, with one post per polarity, rather than one post per division.
All Time Since 1970 New Additions
With the completion of the 1970s, my Fantasy Astrology Baseball project has now spanned five full decades (plus the first two years of the 2020s). Let’s take a look at the new players added to my All-Time Career Fantasy Points database in the 70’s!
Cancer vs Pisces on MLB The Show 22
If you’ve been following this series of simulated Fantasy Astrology Baseball videos on YouTube, you might notice that I’ve already posted games featuring Pisces and Cancer. But there are several reasons why I’m returning to each of these teams.
1970 Fantasy Astrology Recap
While I was building the Fantasy Astrology Lineups for 1970, I could tell that we were heading for a battle between Aries and Leo, just like we saw in 1971. What I didn’t expect is that the Rams and the Lions were fighting for second place, since Sagittarius burst into the lead in the Fire Division!
If the Season Ended Today 2022 All-Star Break
The All-Star Break is a great symbolic midpoint to take stock of how the season is progressing so far. So I’ve calculated fantasy points as of the ASB, in order to determine who would make the Fantasy Astrology playoffs if we only played half a season in 2022. The results might shock you!
Cancer Season 2022 Recap
Would you look at that: Cancer Season is now over! I didn’t even properly notice, since I was occupied by which signs went to the All-Star Game, and then calculating fantasy points as of the All-Star Break. But what better way to to honor the just-ended season by diving into the Crabs 2022 ASB midseason update lineup?!
1971 Fantasy Astrology Leaders
As I go further back through history, my instinct is to spend more time examining the specifics of each season. This is likely due to lack of familiarity: I was an active fan through most of the 1990s, and I had a cursory knowledge of the 80’s from an inherited baseball card collection. But the 70’s and earlier are largely new territory for me. So I’m going to follow my gut and spend some time examining the leaders of the 1971 Fantasy Astrology Baseball League season.
2022 All-Stars by Sign
Now that we have a break in the MLB action for a few days, I’m going to pause and take stock of how the season is going at the symbolic midpoint. And what better lens through which to view the 2022 season than the 2022 All-Stars? I ran the numbers of which astrological signs are best represented among All-Stars, and the results might shock you!
1972 Fantasy Astrology Recap
The problem with figuring out batting orders for all 12 astrology teams is that it drastically increases the focus on position players, as opposed to pitchers. So for the 1972 recap, I want to start with an emphasis on pitching.
Leo vs Aquarius on MLB The Show 22
It’s time for another Fantasy Astrology Simulation video on YouTube! This time, we have Leo taking on Aquarius in a matchup of the two Cardinal signs in the Positive Polarity. Check out the game (and the somewhat predictable result) in the embedded video.
1972 Aries Batting Orders
The 1972 MLB season was the last before the American League adopted the designated hitter rule. But since I’m going reverse-chronologically in my trip through Fantasy Astrology Baseball League history, 1972 is the first time I have encountered the Major Leagues without the DH.
Libra vs Sagittarius on MLB The Show 22
It’s time to go back to YouTube and check out another Fantasy Astrology Baseball simulation video I made using MLB The Show 22. This one features the Libra Scales and the Sagittarius Archers in a Positive Polarity battle of similar color schemes.
1973 Fantasy Astrology Recap
Going reverse-chronologically, you might think that 1973 was business as usual. But it was the first season of the Designated Hitter in the American League. The two Major Leagues operated with different rules for nearly 50 years, as the National League only came to their senses and added the DH for this season, as part of the new post-lockout collective bargaining agreement.
All-Star Ballot - 2022 Cancer Season
With a stolen US Supreme Court handing down a bullshit decision on Friday, setting back reproductive rights in this country by 50 years, it’s been one of the worst Cancer seasons in recent memory. After a weekend of protesting, marching, and donating to abortion funds, I’m taking a moment to appreciate one of the perennial treats of Cancer season: MLB All-Star Voting.
Capricorn vs Cancer on MLB The Show 22
The third Astrology Baseball simulation video that I’ve posted on MLB The Show 22 is especially relevant, because the calendar just turned to Cancer Season. This game features the Crabs taking on one of their fellow Cardinal signs, the Capricorn Goats.
Pisces vs. Virgo on MLB The Show 22
In order to keep the content flowing during my ongoing Spring hiatus, I’m re-posting Astrology Baseball simulation videos on MLB The Show 22 from my YouTube channel. This one features the Pisces Fish against the Virgo Flowers, from way back in the first week of the season!
Taurus vs. Scorpio on MLB The Show 22
For the last three weeks, I’ve been posting simulation videos of Fantasy Astrology Baseball League games on MLB The Show 22. This Opening Day tilt features the Taurus Bulls and the Scorpio Scorpions!
1974 Fantasy Astrology Recap
With all the attention I’ve paid to the five-year period between 1975 and 1979, it’s tough to think about moving backwards to the next half decade. But the reverse chronological march through time must continue, so here’s how the Fantasy Astrology Baseball League shook out in 1974.
Fantasy Astrology Basketball?
I’ve been seeing a lot of commercials for the NBA Conference Finals lately, where the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat engaged in a thrilling Game 7 two nights ago. Naturally, all this talk of basketball got me thinking whether I could apply the principles of Fantasy Astrology to the NBA in the same way that I do for the MLB.
