A blog analyzing Major League Baseball through the lens of Astrology

Welcome to Astrology Baseball, a project where I arrange MLB players into teams based on their astrological signs, and then pit those teams against each other in mock fantasy seasons.

2024 Active Rosters: Capricorn

Capricorn’s 2024 season was marked by a frustrating combination of injuries to some of their key batters, and a lack of depth to compensate for those injuries. For example, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Kyle Tucker only got into 180 games between them (out of a possible 324), but were still the sign’s two highest-scoring corner outfielders.

2024 Active Rosters: Sagittarius

If you look at a lineup made of the top fantasy point-scoring Sagittarius Archers in 2024, it’s crazy how little overlap there is with the list of top most talented players in the Sagittarius player pool. Let’s just say, we could have seen, a much stronger lineup, were it not for the dreaded injury bug.

2024 Active Rosters: Taurus

The top Taurus batter Aaron Judge won the real-life AL MVP award in two of the last three seasons. In addition to taking home the 2024 trophy, Judge even added fantasy value by playing center field regularly, ensuring his eligibility for next year. He’s joined by former AL MVP Jose Altuve and TWO-time World Series MVP Corey Seager, making for a well-celebrated top end of the Taurus offense.

2024 Active Rosters: Pisces

Baseball fans who are also video gamers should be very familiar with the top-scoring Pisces batter in 2024, since Vladimir Guerrero Jr. graced the cover of MLB The Show 24. The Silver Slugging first baseman actually got 12 games at his original position of third base this season: enough for me to place him at the hot corner, opening up first base for Rhys Hoskins, in his first season with the Brewers.

2024 Active Rosters: Libra

The 2024 Libra starting lineup found itself in a state of flux. Two examples: Mookie Betts began the year jumping between shortstop and second base, but then moved back to his customary right field spot after returning from an injury late in the year. And Bryce Harper settled in at first base, after roaming the outfield grass for his entire career.

2024 Active Rosters: Aries

While the next-highest scoring sign is technically Pisces, rather than talk about three Water signs in the top four, I’m skipping ahead one spot to the top Positive sign: Aries. The most impressive Rams player was NL Cy Young Award winner Chris Sale, followed by bounceback Rangers closer Kirby Yates, but their offense was anchored by an impressive trio of Rookies.

2024 Active Rosters: Cancer

By any objective measure, Scorpio and Virgo were the top two signs in 2024. They would flip-flop in those two spots, depending on how strictly you want to stick to positional eligibility rules, but either way, the Cancer Crabs would finish in third place. This is the high finish you would expect from the sign of the National League MVP and highest fantasy scoring player in MLB last year, Shohei Ohtani.

2024 Active Rosters: Virgo

There’s no question that Virgo’s strength comes from its infield, with 40-40 threat Jose Ramirez and World Series MVP Freddie Freeman at the corners. Options for the up the middle / DH rotation include Marcus Semien, Willy Adames, Carlos Correa (when healthy), and Jeremy Pena.

2024 Active Rosters: Scorpio

As a researcher, I like to wait until a full season is complete before starting any analysis. But as a fan, I like to wait until the playoffs are over before starting any analysis. So it happens that my interest in baseball goes WAY up right around when everyone else’s interest has flagged. But that’s a perfect time to focus on Astrology Active Rosters, starting with the league-leading Scorpio Stingers.

2024 Astrology Pitchers - First Impressions

They say “pitching wins championships.” So how does it make sense that Gemini, which has the top scoring pitching staff, would be dead last in the Fantasy Astrology Baseball League standings? Maybe because they had the absolute worst offense, by a large margin. They also say “moderation in all things.”

2024 Astrology Batters - First Impressions

I waited until a full day after the Dodgers finished off the Yankees in the World Serious before I started building my Fantasy Astrology Database for 2024. Virgo legend Freddie Freeman deservedly took home the MVP honors, and his sign was one of the two most represented in the game highlight reels found on MLB.com

2024 MLB Cancer Season Recap

Last weekend, the zodiac wheel turned to Cancer season, which lands closer to the MLB season’s halfway point than the All-Star break. Let’s take a look at the standings at the time of the Cardinal Water sign.

Taurus Season Roster Update 2024

When I build the rosters for the Fantasy Astrology Baseball League teams each year, I rely heavily on preseason rankings. But as more and more games get played, we can start looking at fantasy point totals, to see which early breakout performers should merit addition to rosters for Taurus season, which began last Saturday.

2024 Leo Preview

No sign but Scorpio has won more Fantasy Astrology League points titles than Leo, going back to the mid 1940s. However, plenty of pitching injuries and a mediocre lineup will keep the Lions from being serious contenders for the Fire Division in 2024, according to MLB.com’s rankings of the top 300 fantasy players.

2024 Aries Preview

I’ve always wondered if baseball players born under Aries are influenced by the fact that MLB’s Opening Day almost always falls during Aries season. Historically, the Rams have been one of the most successful Fantasy Astrology signs, and they’ve got another strong team here in 2024, according to MLB.com’s rankings of the top 300 fantasy players.

2024 Sagittarius Preview

The 2024 Fire Division looks likely to end with a battle between Sagittarius and Aries for the top spot, at least according to MLB.com’s rankings of the top 300 fantasy players. I’m inclined to give the advantage to the Archers, since they’re the sign of the number one ranked player in all of baseball.

2024 Scorpio Preview

Going back roughly eight decades into Fantasy Astrology Baseball history, Scorpio has been the most successful sign, according to number of seasons where they scored the most points in the league. The fact that in 2024, the Stingers are projected for a last place finish in their division, shows how cyclical baseball is, mirroring the karmic wheel.

2024 Cancer Preview

Historically speaking, Cancer has generally had a strong offense with a weak pitching staff. Barring some crazy unforeseen circumstances, that will hold true for the Crabs this year, especially since their ace Shohei Ohtani (ranked #11 by MLB.com as a DH-only player) will not pitch this season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

2024 Pisces Preview

Pisces seems primed to take the trophy in the Water Division, thanks to a dynamic offense and bullpen, coupled with a good-enough starting staff. What the Fish lack top of the scale star power, they make up for in consistency across the board, whereas the other two signs in the division are helplessly lopsided in talent distribution.

2024 Gemini Preview

Perhaps this is appropriate, given Gemini’s dual nature, but no sign has more separation between their pitchers and batters, in terms of fantasy upside. In fact, the Twins have the best pitching depth in the game, but struggle to find enough position players to fill out their starting lineup.
