Taurus Season Roster Update 2024
When I build the rosters for the Fantasy Astrology Baseball League teams each year, I rely heavily on preseason rankings. But as more and more games get played, we can start looking at fantasy point totals, to see which early breakout performers should merit addition to rosters for Taurus season, which began last Saturday. It’s still a ridiculously small sample size, especially for pitchers, who have only a handful appearances each. But it’s an auspicious time for the stars, so let’s take a look at the numbers.
The top non-roster batter is Colton Cowser (289 points so far), the next in a long line of sensational Baltimore rookies. The Aries outfielder has inspired fans to come to the ballpark dressed as barn animals, fulfilling the joke potential of his surname. Close behind is new Cubs first baseman Michael Busch (282), who helps a Scorpio team that has been struggling at that position. Sticking with Water signs, Pisces got a third baseman when Oswaldo Cabrera (235) stepped in for the Yankees, and got off to a hot start.
Leo’s outfield looked solid going into the season, but an injury to Luis Robert Jr. opened the door for a comeback from Jesse Winker (245). The only thing that looked solid about Gemini’s offense going into the season was Bobby Witt Jr. (348) at shortstop… which also means they had the lowest floor to improve. And the Twinz picked up some solid major leaguers, if not fantasy superstars: Dbacks rookie shortstop Blaze Alexander (217), Guardians utility player Tyler Freeman (187), and Cardinals catcher/DH Ivan Herrera (152).
Even though I picked Virgo as the top sign heading into 2024, I was extremely worried about their pitching staff. They already had the Cy Young Award winner from two years ago Sandy Alcantara on the injured list, when he was joined by last year’s CYA recipient Gerrit Cole. Add in burgeoning ace Kyle Bradish and top tier closer Devin Williams, and there were some holes to fill.
Who would have thought that Ranger Suarez (411) would be averaging over a hundred points per game over four starts? (The Phillies lefty was already on the Flowers roster, but I thought it was worth mentioning the top overall fantasy scorer so far this year.) Add in fellow Philly Spencer Turnbull (341) and Ronel Blanco (328) – also with an average of 100 points per game, one of which was a no-hitter. The Blue Sox are gonna be just fine… (still workshopping names for the Virgo team y’all, help me out here.)
Other rostered players who deserve mentions include new full-time shortstop Mookie Betts (490) and DH-only Shohei Ohtani (413) - both real-life Dodgers teammates. Not coincidentally, their respective signs, Libra and Cancer, are leading their respective divisions. The only other players to reach 400 points are Capricorn shortstop Elly De La Cruz (417) and Scorpio DH-only Marcell Ozuna (415)
